Our client, a reputable asset management firm requiring the service of a Chief Risk Officer (Diaspora) to fill out the description sited below.

Job Summary
  • The position is part of the Company’s senior management team and, in general, the individual will be primarily responsible for:
  • Enforcing the Organisation’s ERM objectives and direction. Serves as the point of contact for the CEO and board, providing comprehensive management of risks for all the firm’s business areas and units including subsidiaries, associated companies and SPVs.
  • Developing and communicating risk management policies, risk appetite, risk mitigation strategies and risk limits to the group.
  • Managing enterprise-wide risks through the design and implementation of control frameworks and best practice policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and validating risk measurement and valuation methodologies to ensure the alignment of the risk management capabilities with the firms strategic direction.
  • Developing a Risk-based Financing model for all parts of the business

Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to think strategically and holistically and to appreciate the systemic impact of various policies, issues and solutions.
  • Deep and broad expertise in dominant and other risk types for all the fimns business sectors, sector business models and sector strategic direction.
  • Experience in building professional business relationships and dealing at a senior level appropriate for a leader of a critical ftmction.
  • In-depth understanding of operational/business risks, operating analysis, structured products, interest-rate derivatives, equities and regulatory compliance.
  • Broad understanding of risk and return, indicators and risk management techniques as well as trading and pricing derivatives.
  • Strong knowledge of derivatives products.
  • In-depth appreciation of project evaluation and project management techniques.
  • Strong financial accoi.rnting and budgeting skills.
  • Broad knowledge of market risk concepts.
  • Broad knowledge of financiaL systems and process audit.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes.
  • Demonstrated superior understanding of non-bank financial service operations, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Define, implement and monitor the Firm’s overall integrated risk management framework
  • and internal controls as well as set guidelines for the development of supporting policies and
  • procedures.
  • Provide complete ongoing analysis and evaluation of the risk and fraud proffle within the
  • various businesses and units — conducts fraud analyses and supervises investigations into fraud
  • allegations.
  • Ensure the adequacy of existing internal controls and risk management frameworks through
  • continuous identification, measurement and reporting of risk positions.
  • Determine the risk-hearing capacity of the firm and organise portfolio options as in keeping
  • with iisk management strategy, including financing options for the cost of risk retention.
  • Participate in process improvement/redesign and system upgTade/implementation efforts to
  • ensure relevant control requirements are considered and built into new svsrenis and processes.
  • Oversee the group Internal Audit. Compliance, Programme Management Office and Risk
  • Management teams.
  • Creation and implementation of a crisis management plan and team.
  • Monitoring policies and procedures for preventing loss of financial or physical assets.
  • Effectiveness of business process controls

Minimum Qualifications
  • First degree in business, accounting or other finance related discipline or other fields of study but with subsequent professional risk management qualification.
  • A professional accounting qualification i e.g. ACCA, CPA, FRM. PRIMA, etc.
  • 12-15 years cognate experience, with at least five 5-7 years in a related senior risk management capacity.
